The Projects and Activities of the Oregon Council
The FFF in Oregon has a broad agenda of activities of considerable importance to the fly fishers of Oregon. Along with several other projects, in the last few years the Oregon Council of the FFF has:
- Medford Outfall Report (PDF) (2013)
- Provided substantial funding for the first Casting for Recovery retreat held in Oregon. (2004)
- Major contributor to the Jones Creek Culvert Replacement Project to open up 12 miles of habitat for steelhead and salmon on this tributary of the Rogue River. (2005)
- Sponsored and conducted three educational seminars, one for children and two for women. (2004 - 2005)
- Co-sponsored with the Central Oregon Flyfishers a macro-invertebrate study on the Crooked River. (2004)
- Work with other groups on regulatory and habitat management issues. (Annually)
- Hosted the Warmwater Fly Fishing Expo to introduce the public to warmwater opportunities. (1996)
- Produced 27 fly tying instructional videos from tyers at the NW Fly Tyer's Expo. (1989 to present)
- Funded two graduate scholarship in fisheries at OSU. The scholarship is awarded each year to a student working with wild fish. (Annually)
- Provided a major grant to the Kokanee Karnival, a fishers and environmental program in Central Oregon sponsored by the Central Oregon Flyfishers and Sunriver Anglers. (2000-2001)
- Major sponsor of the "Lew Bell Library" at the Fly Fishing Discovery Center in Livingston, MT with a donation of books and equipment. (1999 -2003)
- Helped fund the Oregon Women's Outdoor Program, a program designed to introduce women to fly fishing. (1997-2000)
- Helped fund an underwater camera for the Millicoma Interpretive Center in Coos County. (1997)
- Funded work to develop a scientific database to aid Umpqua River cutthroat trout management. (1998)
- Funded water quality research on the Applegate River. (1998)
- Funded rehabilitation work on the Blitzen River to aid native redband trout in the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. (1998)
- Participated in the funding of the restoration of Tumalo Creek, a tributary of the Deschutes River. (1993-1994)
- Co-sponsored the publication of the 1996 Oregon Bull Trout Report, a scientific publication to assist management. (1997)
- Completed a second culvert project, on Olallie Creek, to aid McKenzie River bull trout and native Chinook salmon. This $56,000 project opened up 2 miles of prime habitat for spawning and rearing. (1995)
- Led a coalition of 5 agencies to complete a $73,000 culvert project on Sweetwater Creek to aid McKenzie River Bull Trout. (1993)
- Co-sponsored the Searun Cutthroat Trout Symposium. (1995)
- Led the fight to protect the searun cutthroat trout on the Umpqua River. (1996)
